Changing the menu buttons positions on Ubuntu 11.10

Hello

I’m still setting up my Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). Let’s change the menu buttons (minimize, maximize, close) position to the right (again).

Open your Terminal
$ sudo apt-get install gconf-editor

Run it
$ gconf-editor

Go to “apps/metacity/general/”
Find “button_layout” and update the value to:

menu:minimize,maximize,close

Save, logout, login. Done!

    OK — been on this thing for about four months now and it’s basically bookmarked at this point, so thought I’d write something up since a lad on another thread asked me the other day. Am based in the UK, mostly stick to footie and the horses, a fiver here and there, for context.

    What got me on it was actually a bit daft — I never could work out what an e/w payout actually came to when the place terms changed. Basically I’d wing it and moan when the payout landed. Now I type the odds in before every slip, even a simple single bet.

    Their single bet calculator is the bit I open most — you drop in stake and odds and it spits out the return straight away, fractional or decimal, doesn’t matter. Same tool covers the multiples — doubles and trebles returns, a lucky 15, yankees, honestly that’s where most people I know lose track. If you fancy a poke about, it’s over at betting super heinz and it’s free with no account nonsense.

    One thing that actually shifted things for me is the geekier tools. The odds-to-probability thing that shows the overround, plus a kelly calculator — I use half kelly as the full version is a quick route to a dead bankroll. Dutching calculator is handy too when I’m splitting a race.

    Not all sunshine though. Its layout looks pretty plain — no frills, looks like it was built by someone who cares more about maths than colours. On mobile it’s fine although the lucky 63 breakdown are a squeeze. And no app, just the site — doesn’t bother me but worth saying.

    So yeah. Doesn’t cost anything, barely any ads, does the job. Anyone who even now does the maths on paper, give it a go — it’s saved me plenty of arguments with the bookie.
