Ainda estou configurando meu Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal). Para mudar os botões do menu de posição para minimizar, maximizar, fechar para a direita novamente faça o seguinte:
Abra o seu terminal
$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout 'menu:minimize,maximize,close'
Resultado:
Na minha instalação ele mudou sem deslogar, se você tiver problemas, tente executar como root e relogar.
