Abra seu terminal.
$ sudo apt-get install gconf-editor
Execute o gconf-editor
$ sudo gconf-editor
Procure por apps/metacity/general/
Encontre button_layout e modifique o valor para:
menu:minimize,maximize,close
Salve, deslogue, logue e pronto!
