Ubuntu, VirtualBox 2.2 and USB

Published by Matheus (X-warrior) Bratfisch on April 25, 2009

Hello,

Now, with this new version of ubuntu, i will post alot about it while I’m trying configurations. I don’t want to teach how to install VirtualBox 2.2, because it’s a package .deb and is so easy to install it (Download Sun VirtualBox). In this post I want to remember that we should select the option “Enable IO APIC” in “Settings – General – Advanced”. (My version of WinXp doesn’t work without it). So if you system is not booting, verify this option. Now let’s go to enable USB in your Virtual machine.

You have to install “Guest Additions”, use the menu “Devices – Install Guest Additions”. (Don’t forget to mount it on your cd in virtualbox)

After you install it go to console:

$ grep vbox /etc/group
The result is something similar to this: vboxusers:x:gid:user

(If your user is not there, add it “System – Administration – Users and groups”)

Edit the file “mountkernfs.sh”:
$ sudo pico /etc/init.d/mountkernfs.sh

Go to the end of do_start(), and before the } add this line:
domount usbfs “” /proc/bus/usb usbdevfs -onoexec,nosuid,nodev,devgid=GID,devmode=644

(Replace the GID with your GID)

Save the file, reboot the computer and use your usb in your virtualmachine.

The site that make me try this way is http://www.davidgrant.ca/virtualbox_usb_windows_xp_guest_ubuntu_hardy. This website don’t says it works on Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty), so i tried and it worked.

I hope this is useful,
Matheus

PS: You have to select the device you want to use in virtual machine in “Device – USB DEVICES”

    I have been playing on Rolletto for about five months now, so the initial novelty has worn off. Found it through a recommendation, mainly because I was looking for a platform with fast cashouts. The Rolletto lobby is bigger than I expected, though I personally stick to maybe twenty titles.

    Providers include the usual suspects: Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, Play’n GO, Nolimit City and Hacksaw Gaming. Sweet Bonanza and Gates of Olympus are in the top row, though I spend most of my time on high volatility slots. Evolution powers the live section, which means twenty-four hour coverage with English and Spanish speaking dealers. Sportsbook is there as well, handy for match days.

    The starting promotion here covers the first four deposits: deposit bonuses that stack up to a decent total. Playthrough is forty times the bonus amount, standard for a crypto-friendly casino. Current promo codes and the latest offers are worth verifying at rolletto before committing money. Weekly cashback and tournament entries pop up regularly, which keeps things interesting after the first deposit.

    The deposit floor is low, around ten euros. Visa and Mastercard go through without problems, although the crypto options are the quickest route: BTC, ETH, USDT and several others. Crypto cashouts came through within hours, card withdrawals took two to three working days. Verification was painless — uploaded ID and a utility bill, cleared overnight.

    On mobile I use the browser version and load times are quick. No app to install, which suits me fine. Support responds in English on live chat and wait times are short. They operate under a Curacao licence, which is worth knowing before you sign up. What matters is the money arrives when you ask for it.
